Now I am sure that those of you who me well will be surprised by this....
The final piece of BBC New at Ten last night showed two Chelsea player (yes, I do mean football...) pausing for a moment, one with his hand on the others head. The commenator suggested that this was a spiritual moment.
Maybe they were praying?
It wouldn't be beyond imagination to think that two footballers might be sufficiently in touch with God to believe that pausing for prayer in the middle of the game might be a good thing to do.
Now I'm not suggesting that this might in someway influence the outcome of the game, but if it enables the players to focus on what they are doing, that has to be good.
And so I thought of Morning and Evening Prayer said daily in so many of our churches, and certainly in St Andrew's, when we pause in the pressence of God and reflect on the day and its tasks. Maybe its not about scoring goals, but it is about the blessing of the ordinary tasks of life.

Gael Bigirimana, a 18 year old who has made it into the Coventry City first team kneels in the centre circle and prays before and after every game.
